Homework for the week January 26,2009

Students received a packet today in class. For tonight, Tuesday, January 27th, they are to complete pages two and three.

Extra Credit Assignment

Extra credit is always given in my class. You can write a news summary. All you have to do is read an article from the newspaper and write about the subject. Please write in an essay format but as a guide answer the who, what, where, when, why and how.
Please be sure to write the name of the newspaper and the date so I know where you found the article.

I will also accept a summary from a book you read. However, the book must be either a historical fiction, biography or autobiography about a historical person.

Walking tour of the Lower East Side

I love going on walking tours of our great city. Since my classes are studying immigration, a great area to explore is the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It is easy to get there by just taking the M train and getting off at Essex Street. Then walk along either Orchard or Rivington Streets. At 90 Orchard Street is the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. This is a great place to visit! The bookstore is amazing!
Rivington Street is fun to explore. They have many apartment buildings. They also have the great Economy Candy Store. It takes me back to my past of penny candies. Economy Candy is at 108 Rivington Street.
A good guide book to use is Joyce Mendelsohn's THE LOWER EAST SIDE REMEMBERED AND REVISITED.

Students are currently studying immigration. They have a packet that needs to be completed and given to me by next week.

Home work for the week of January 4, 2009

Students received a packet entitled DBQ 11: The Industrial Boom. The students are to complete the work and give the packet to me on January 12th.
