Test review corrections

It seems that some students had trouble with the following questions

1. Buildings that are divided into tiny apartments are called tenements. It appears that some students were confused with the word ghettoes. A ghetto is a neighborhood where people of a particular ethnic background live or are required to live.

2. The Separate but equal concept is associated with the U.S. Supreme Court decision Plessy v Ferguson.

Walking tour of the Lower East Side

I love going on walking tours of our great city. Since my classes are studying immigration, a great area to explore is the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It is easy to get there by just taking the M train and getting off at Essex Street. Then walk along either Orchard or Rivington Streets. At 90 Orchard Street is the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. This is a great place to visit! The bookstore is amazing!
Rivington Street is fun to explore. They have many apartment buildings. They also have the great Economy Candy Store. It takes me back to my past of penny candies. Economy Candy is at 108 Rivington Street.
A good guide book to use is Joyce Mendelsohn's THE LOWER EAST SIDE REMEMBERED AND REVISITED.
Have Fun!

Homework

Students are currently studying immigration. They have a packet that needs to be completed and given to me by next week.
